❓ FAQ — Rent Receipt Generator

1. Is a digital/printed rent receipt valid for HRA claims?

Yes. A printed rent receipt with the landlord's signature is valid. Most employers and the income tax department accept printed receipts. Ensure the landlord signs each receipt.

2. Do I need a revenue stamp on rent receipts?

A ₹1 revenue stamp is required on cash receipts above ₹5,000 as per the Indian Stamp Act. For payments by cheque, UPI, or bank transfer, no revenue stamp is needed.

3. What if my landlord refuses to give PAN?

If annual rent exceeds ₹1 lakh and landlord refuses to give PAN, your employer may not accept the HRA claim. You can still claim HRA while filing ITR but may face scrutiny. Try to get a written declaration from the landlord instead.

4. Can I claim HRA without rent receipts?

For annual rent below ₹1 lakh, some employers do not ask for receipts — only a self-declaration. However, keeping receipts is strongly recommended as the income tax department can ask for proof.

5. How many months of receipts do I need?

You need receipts for every month in which you paid rent and claimed HRA exemption. Generate all 12 months (April to March) for a complete financial year. If you changed house mid-year, generate separate sets for each property.
